Trente et Quarante is a card game involving gambling which originated in the 1600s. It is of French origin and involves a table used specifically for this game as well as normal playing cards. While players won’t often find it at US based casinos, there are some European casinos that still host the game. It’s also one of only two games in the Monte Carlo gambling rooms. For interest sake, the only other game played in the gambling rooms of Monte Carlo is roulette. Players can expect a return of over 98% when playing this game – quite good for a card game of this type.
How to Play Trente et Quarante
For the setup of the game, there are two casino staff that sit on either side of the table for a total of four. One of these acts as a dealer. There is also a staff member who stands behind the two that are not acting as dealers. He is there to supervise the game. For Trente et Quarante, players use six different stacks of 52 cards each. The dealer first asks one of the players to cut the deck using a blank card after all 312 cards have been completely shuffled and mixed up.
The dealer then puts two rows of cards face up. These two rows have different names. The upper row is referred two as the noir while the lower row is referred to as rogue. One card row is black – the first, while the other is red – the second. Different cards are worth different amounts of points. The aces are worth one point each, cards with faces are worth tens points each, and the other cards are worth their face value. The dealer puts cards down on each down on each row until the row has more than 30 points. Whichever row is closest to 30 will be called the winning row. For example, if the first row had a queen, jack, king and ace and the second row had queen, jack, king and 3 of spades, then the first row would win. This is because the first row’s total is thirty one while the second row’s total is thirty three. If it happens that both of the rows add up to the same number, then the deal is worth nothing. This is the case unless both rows add up to a grand total of thirty one.
If both rows add up to a total of 31, then 31 apres is called by the dealer. In this case, bets lose half of their value and are barred. The player can then request that his bet be divided, or he can wait for the cards to be dealt again. If he wins on this next deal, his bet will be freed.
Betting
Like punting in the Cricket World Cup betting, there are four chances to place wagers in Trente et Quarante. The first is rouge or noir. This is also called the grand tableau’. In this bet the player is betting on which row of cards will win. The next bet is couleur or inverse. This bet is whether the first card put down in the winning row will be different or the same to the colour of the row in which it is placed.
